S2E66: OCRD Series II, Part II: Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) & Social Media: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly with Robyn Stern, LCSW
Join your host, Nicole Morris, LMFT & Mental Health Correspondent, as she welcomes BDD and OCD Specialist, and lived experience warrior, Robyn Stern, LCSW, to the OCD Family Community. Robyn has done a lot of dynamic work around raising awareness and advocating for more research and resources for folks suffering from BDD. In this episode, we look specifically at how social media can prey upon a BDD sufferers worst fears. But it’s not realistic to abstain from Social Media in this digital age. So Robyn discusses the importance of establishing healthy boundaries with Social Media, recognizing the filtered “reality” that people post, and the responsibility of folks with a platform being honest or transparent about their image. Nicole takes us on a stroll down memory lane of Social Media, dating apps and filters. And we discuss how reality tv can impact public perception. Intrigued to learn more!? I hope you are! Because when we learning more leads to greater understanding and greater hope.
